Linear Motion Bearings
Linear motion bearings provide unidirectional free motion that allows for easy movement of heavy objects across a straight line. While these bearings reduce friction, they are available in varying forms like fluid-based devices and rolling elements. It is because of the use of linear motion bearings that there is smooth motion and higher precision. This makes these bearings suitable for use in automated systems and sliding doors where precise movement is necessary.

Rolling linear bearings
The guide rails of the rolling linear bearings have rollers or balls that ensure controlled motion by acting as the smooth rolling element. Depending upon the linear speed demands of the guide, these bearings are available in small and large sizes. The option to customize is possible according to the contact angle and size requirements for loading capacity and movements of the assembly.
Rolling linear bearings offer high speeds because they have a large diameter while the contact angle offers a balanced support for radial loads and lateral loads. While the contact angle affects the radial load positively, it negatively influences the lateral load capacity. These bearings vary in their structural characteristics and are available in varying designs to fit a range of applications.

Plain linear bearings
Plain linear bearings or linear flat roller bearings provide a smooth contact between two surfaces by reducing friction. They have a simpler construction which makes them easy to use. No doubt, this adds to the lowered production costs for manufacturing the plain linear bearings. Due to the larger contact surface area, this type of bearings can handle heavy loads. In comparison to other types of linear bearings, they can better manage vibration and shock.
There is direct sliding contact between the two surfaces of plain linear bearings and there is no use of rolling elements. They help lower the surface pressure as the contact area is larger and allows it to handle high loads and absorb shocks. However, there is a need to maintain lubrication because they have high friction which increases the chances of wear and limits the linear guide speed.
