Ball Bearings
Being the most popular type of bearings, ball bearings can support high speeds while lowering the capacity of load. The ball in the bearing acts as the rolling element which makes the bearing useful for varying purposes. While these bearings are durable, they come in simpler designs which makes them easy to maintain. The bearings help in rightly positioning the moving parts of a machine to allow for smooth movements of the equipment.

Deep groove ball bearings
The most commonly used types of ball bearings are the deep groove ball bearings that are available in varying arrangements like snap ring and sealed. As these bearings provide radial and axial support, they are used in heavy machinery to support larger loads.
The contact angle is non-adjustable which is why the varying degrees of support that it provides to the load is fixed. Deep groove ball bearings are further classified into two main types which are single row deep groove ball bearings and double row deep groove ball bearings. While the single row deep groove ball bearings are ideal for high-speed applications where they reduce friction, the double row deep groove ball bearings are used in applications with comparatively higher loads where single row may not help.

Self-aligning ball bearings
The dual-row ball arrangement of self-aligning ball bearings makes them perfect for applications like correcting misalignment. The spherical raceway is in the outer ring and the bearing axis is in line with the center of curvature.
There are two raceways in the inner ring which are continuous raceways and deep raceways and allow the bearing to support limited axial and radial loading. The two variations of these ball bearings are open and sealed variations which have a function-specific design. Sometimes, shaft deflection may be a cause for angular misalignment without major issues. If there is one such angular misalignment between the housing and the shaft then the design of the bearing makes it possible to handle the same.
Self-aligning ball bearings find their use in varying applications where it is difficult to align the housing with the shaft. These bearings may also be used where a bend may take place in the shaft, as in transmission shafts.

Angular contact ball bearings
The angular contact ball bearings have raceways on their outer ring as well as inner ring. The design makes it easy for the ball bearings to deal with radial and axial forces collectively. While these bearings are available in varying designs, the presence of seals and shields adds an extra layer of protection to the ball bearings. The angular contact ball bearings act as retainers for the lubricants while also preventing contamination which helps prolong the lifespan of the machine.
There are a range of materials that go into the making of angular contact ball bearings and add to their quality. These materials are cadmium, ceramic hybrids, plastic, and stainless steel. Chrome or some other materials may be used during the manufacturing of these ball bearings to add a layer of coating onto them. Angular contact ball bearings can undergo solid lubrication, re-lubrication or pre-lubrication. They are of three types which are single row angular contact ball bearings, double row angular contact ball bearings and four points angular contact ball bearings.

Thrust ball bearings
There is a unique type of ball bearings that are manufactured only for the purpose of handling axial loads in a machine. Specially engineered, the thrust ball bearings cannot be used in any machines to support or manage radial loads. These types of bearings are well-suited for high-speed applications and make minimal noise that contributes to smooth working of the machines in which thrust ball bearings are used.
The two types of thrust ball bearings are single direction thrust ball bearings and double direction thrust ball bearings. When the force application is in one direction, single direction bearings are used while force application in both directions would mean the use of double direction bearings.
